From the big discovery under my parents bed, I had to do intense sorting out. My mother loved to write to her friends and family in Japan and Europe, she kept all the letters she wrote for years. Needless to say, I was never good at letter writing, I mean not as much as my mother did. I wrote to my parents when I was in school in the UK, and sent Xmas cards to my friends. Also New Year’s cards in Japan. I only wrote from 10-15 every year. My father sent about 50 new year cards from home, and about 200 from his office. (They kept all of them and can see how sentimental were for them)
What really surprised me that they kept them in separate boxes under the bed. Lol!
I took these letters out from the boxes and put them neatly into plastic bags separately, and piled them up into specific place in the room.
I learnt this method when I was in school in the UK to keep books, notes and letters in the trunks.
Everyone in school had trunks and for me was a surprising thing. That’s how you keep your personal belongings in good condition.
I got rid of all the unnecessary boxes that were taking too much space. Nice and spacious!
The next hard thing was to sort out bed linens. My mother loved Marimekko designed bed linens and I grew up using them.
There were soft mats that I can use for guests. Anyway I ordered laundry case from Ikea, nice ones and stored them.
For me it was nice to go through my parents things! New discoveries and leant a lot about them.

私の両親のべッドの下から出てきた数々の思い出の物、新しい発見続きでしたが、かなり密度をあげての整理が必要でした。母は手紙を書くのが好きな人で、日本やヨーロッパの家族や友人に毎年手紙を書き、すべて残しておく人でした。言うまでもないですが、私はかなりの筆不精で母に比べれば、ほとんど書かなかったですね。私がイギリスの寄宿舎学校にいた時はよく両親に書いたり、友人にはクリスマスカードを送ったり、日本では年賀状も書きましたが、大体10-15枚程でした。父は自宅からは約50枚、事務所からは200枚程の年賀状を毎年書いていましたね。父も母もすべて残しておいたので、思い出にしていたのでしょうね。
一番びっくりしたのは、この手紙、カード、年賀状をいくつかの(かなりの)数の箱に詰めておいた事ですね。なので、これを全部取り出して、プラスチックケースに丁寧に分けていれて、部屋の特定の場所に重ねておきました。（とりあえず）
それから私が子供の頃の服や両親が若い時の服などは、ホームセンターで買ったプラスチックケースに入れたりしましたが、半分は処分しました。私がバレエを習っていた時のバレエシューズ、トウシューズ、レオタードなどは思い出があるので、残しておく事にしました。
数日間かけて整理をしましたが、最後には中ぐらいのサイズの木製のトランクを2個取り寄せる事にしました。色々なサイトをチェックしましたが、アマゾンでリーズナブルで良いトランクを見つけたので、部屋に上手くはまるサイズをチェックして購入しました。この方法はイギリスの寄宿舎学校にいた時に覚えたことで、こうやってみんな本、テキスト、ノート、手紙などをトランクの中に良いコンディションで入れておいたんですね。
私の母の思い出の価値のある手紙は、父の年賀状と共に２個のトランクの中に入れました。綺麗にはまりました！かなり場所をとっていた箱を処分した後は、大分スペースもとれました！
次に難関だったのは、ベッドリネン！（ベッドカバー、シーツ、枕カバー）などなど。。
母はマリメコデザインがお気に入りだったし、私もマリメコのベッドリネンで育ったようなものです。中には初頭のデザイン柄のものもありましたが、穴だらけだったのでそれは処分して、新しいものはゲストのために使う事にしました。ソフトマットも、ゲスト用にして、使うベッドリネンはイケアの大きめなリネンのランドリーケースに収納することにしました。上手く入った！
次の大きいタスクは母のCD, テープ(古いタイプ)、本、そして母の一番の思い出のある色々な物。何故こんなにたくさんの物を持っていたのか？？ とりあえず、120サイズの箱2個に詰めて、徐々に整理しよっと！強いて言えば母は散らかすのか得意で、整理は下手なような人でした。まあその性格が良かったのかもしれないですね。私にしては、両親の思い出の物を見て、整理するのは新しい発見もありで、両親の事をもっと知ることができました。
