My Hayama Isshiki House’s renovation(100years old) began on 2023 January 15th.
Before the renovation, I had to go through a lot of cleaning up, sorting things out and organizing things in my house. Mind you I spent over a year tidying up my room, so I was getting warmed up. To start with, I had my garden plants cut and cleaned up. (all the unnecessary plants and trees and so on.) This took approximately two days. After that I had the store space under the living room cleaned up. There were so many things that were accumulated for many years, and in fact never seen before. From the baby car, baby clothes, car parts, light fixtures. I discovered there were comic books (Doraemeon) and magazines!
Did I read them when I was a kid or in school?? Surprisngly there was also a wash basin!
Basically before the renovation, it took another extra year to prepare. The big reason for the renovation was a part of the wall in the living room fell down after the huge typhoon in summer 2022. I asked the carpenter who is my friend’s friend to have a look. He said that I need to ask the reform company to see. A week later a carpenter brought his partner to see my house and then the negotiation begun.
I had to go through intense negotiations with the reform and insurance company as to where my house needed to be fixed. (Because it was over 100 years old.)
Basically the walls of living room and my bed room needed immediate fixing. Also the windows in the living room. (over 100 years old!) There were beautiful windows but a lot of parts were broken due to previous typhoon and what surprised me, all the plants outside the wall were growing inside. I had to cut them and take them off. Wind was blowing through and there were cracks everywhere. I was sad to let go of them but for security purposes, they needed to be replaced with new ones.
The hardest decision I made was to take off the tower adjacent to the living room. Because it was over 100 years old, parts of tower were falling apart. Stones fell down from the tower and it was very worrying. I would say it was a part of family property, but it’ll cost a fortune to have a new tower built and to save the cost, I decided to take it down.
There was a small closet linked to the tower, and when I opened, there were tons of empty boxes. Lol! The closet was also falling apart, so I decided to get rid of it.(over 100 years old!) It took over 4 hours to take boxes and flatten them. The reform company helped throwing boxes out. Thank you!! Mostly there were my father’s collection. I think he had obsession keeping empty boxes for electrical things.
Next hard thing was to get rid of the double bed in my parents room. I had tools to disassemble the bed but it took a whole day to do. The bed’s screws weren’t so complicated but were so tight.
Even I untied screws, there was a huge board and two mats underneath and on top of that, my parents kept so many things under the bed!! Letters, clothes, ceramics…. There were lots of new discoveries endlessly…

私の葉山一色のスペイン風の家(築100年)の修復工事は2023年1月15日より始まりました。修復工事開始前には片付け、掃除、アレンジメントなどなどでてんてこ舞いでした。ただ、自分の部屋を片付け、改造するのに１年ほどかけましたので、ウォームアップはできていたと思います。一番最初に取り掛かったのは、庭の草刈。家の周りは植木はもちろん、草がボーボーだったので業者に頼んで、2日間かけて綺麗にしました。その後はリビングルームの真下にある倉庫の片付け。年々蓄積されたものや、私が見たこともないものや！ベビーカー（私が赤ん坊の頃の）、車のパーツ、照明器具、お掃除の道具、家具、漫画（どらえもん）や雑紙などなど。。。
子供の頃、読んだっけ？驚くことに洗面器まで出てきた！
修復工事までに至った経緯は2022年の夏に起きた大型台風で、リビングルームの壁が剥がれてしまったからです。私の友達のつてで大工さんに見てもらいましたが、僕のパートナーのリフォーム会社を紹介するよ、と言ってくれて、一週間後に見に来てくれました。まずは家のどの箇所を修復しなければいけないのかを念密に約１年間リフォーム会社と保険会社と交渉していきました。(築100年でしたので。。。）
基本的にはリビングルームと私の寝室の壁は大至急修復が必要でした。そしてリビングルームの窓も。とても美しい窓でしたが、あちこち破損していて、驚く事にリビングルームの外壁の草が窓の隙間から家の中まで生えていました！(築100年）割れている箇所もあり、隙間風が入ってきていました！窓を取り外すのは寂しかったけれども、防犯のために新しい窓をつける事にしました。
一番難しい決断はリビングルームに隣接しているタワーを取り壊す事でした。築100年でしたので、タワーの数か所は崩れかけていて、石が転げ落ちる事もあり、とても不安でした。私の家族の資産でもありましたが、タワーを新しく建て直すと途方もない金額になるので、コスト節約のために取り壊す事にしました。
リビングルームすなわちすなわちタワーの中にクロゼットがありましたが、開けてみると空の箱だらけ！Lol！クロゼットもほぼ崩れかけていましたので、取り壊す事にしました。(築100年！）箱を取り出し、ぺッチャンコにするまで４時間かけて、リフォーム会社が親切に引き取ってくれました。ありがとうございます！すべての箱は父のコレクションで、父は電気製品の空箱を捨てずに集めるのが趣味だったみたいですね。
次に大変だったのは、私の両親の部屋のダブルベッド！ベッドを分解する道具はありましたが、この作業で丸一日かかりました。ベッドのスクリューは複雑ではありませんでしたが、ホントに硬い！！スクリューは上手くいったものの、ベッドの下には硬いボードとマットレスが２枚も。ウェー。しかもベッドの真下には両親の手紙、洋服、陶器などなど。。。知らなかったものや新しい発見などつきませんでした。
